WOMEN IN THE SHADOW

LUCIA MONTOJO

Gender discrimination, competitiveness, respect for an absurd hierarchy, or simply sheer ignorance clipped the wings of great women who were pioneers in the adventure of knowledge, icons of progress, muses of the arts.

Lucía Montojo reckons with history and frees 48 formidable women from the clutches of oblivion. Many lived in the submissive shadow of their partners, stripped of their merits, who clashed head-on with a patriarchal society that straitjacketed them to the point of suffocation. They were not allowed to fully develop their talents, much less be protagonists of their achievements.

In this book, readers will find well-known exemplary women who managed to pierce the veil and reach the light; and others who remained hidden, walking in the shadow of the moon, waiting for someone to rescue their warm light from icy oblivion.

There are undoubtedly many more and there will continue to be, but they are increasingly exposed to the light of recognition.

Lucía Montojo (1974) studied at the School of Letters in Madrid. A businesswoman, dreamer, spirited poet, and writer, she has contributed to literary magazines and the national press. She is the author of novels such as El callejón del beso (The Alley of the Kiss) and Pasaje de vuelta (The Return Passage) , and this is her first non-fiction book.
