300 Years Earlier Color Art Prints - Limited Edition of 300 Copies

This is a limited edition of 20 art prints in 27x41cm format, featuring some of the drawings made by the artist who created “Le Traité des couleurs servant à la peinture à l'eau” in 1692, the most complete painting and colour guide of its time, of which only one copy exists in the world, and which was 300 years ahead of its time, when the Pantone colour guide was invented in 1962.

From the 900 completely handwritten and hand-painted pages, we have selected the twenty-four most spectacular prints to create the world's most exclusive collection of color art.

You can decorate the walls of your home and office with a combination of elegance, light, and color, or simply collect them in the artist folder we created for this edition, numbered 1 to 300.

Only 300 limited-edition copies worldwide, in homage to the approximate period in which the Dutch artist anticipated the invention of Pantone, is also a way of paying tribute to this splendid educational guide, of which only one copy exists and which was probably seen by very few people. This is because in 1692, printing presses did not yet have the technology necessary to print a treatise of this nature. It would take another hundred years before it could be reproduced with any degree of reliability, using lithography.

Otherwise, it would have served as an indispensable tool for more than one artist in the following centuries.

A new ode to color and Pantone: the essential color guide in the universe of creativity and design whose use has transcended centuries to remain a fundamental tool in the contemporary era.

** Many of our 300yearsbeforecolor.com limited edition buyers (one sold out, the other about to sell out) had expressed a desire to own some of the art prints in a larger format. Not only for the pleasure of collecting them, but also for their uniqueness and beauty, and to decorate their favorite space.

As someone who works in color both in real life and online, this facsimile reproduction of the 1692 "Color Bible" is somewhat life-affirming. I bought it for myself as a gift and was not disappointed. The presentation and execution of the object are impeccable. Bravo!
